A new photo shows the damage sustained by a prized muscle car that was aboard the container ship Rena.

The 1972 Holden Monaro GTS, the pride and joy of ex-pat Troy Levien, was in one of around 2000 containers that were aboard the ship when it hit the Astrolabe Reef off the coast of Tauranga in October 2011.

Mr Levien, an electrician based in Western Australia, told 3 News at the time of the grounding that he was due to be reunited with his car for the first time in four years.

Salvage workers are still recovering containers from the site of the wreck, and are due to begin cutting up and removing pieces of the ship’s bow from the reef.
