Red-faced and teary-eyed, National list MP Aaron Gilmore apologised for "bullying" a Hanmer Springs waiter and calling him a "either a 'dick' or 'dickhead'".

The incident occurred two weekends ago at the Heritage Hotel in Hanmer Springs when he was dining with three friends after a National Party conference.

Mr Gilmore allegedly used his status as an MP and his contacts with the Prime Minister's office to convince the waiter to give him another bottle of wine.

But Mr Gilmore denies name-dropping the Prime Minister or asking, "Don't you know who I am?"

It's taken Mr Gilmore five days to publically front over the allegations, which were made last week by Christchurch lawyer Andrew Riches who was at Mr Gilmore's table.

This morning, he fronted to reporters at Parliament and apologised for being "rude and arrogant" to the waiter.
