The battle between the two Davids has reared its head again for the Labour Party.

It's a headache for party leader David Shearer, and with a lot of support in the party still going the way of David Cunliffe, speculation won't go away that Labour's in line for a change of leader.

“I think the Cunliffe camp is certainly small, and probably getting smaller,” he says, “Factionalism is back in the Labour Party caucus. It was more or less extinguished… by Helen Clark.”

Mr Trotter says Mr Cunliffe would be a very different leader to Mr Shearer.

“[He would] probably be much more aggressive in terms of going after the National Party,” he says.

Mr Trotter believes Labour are ‘flogging a dead horse’ attacking National over asset sales.
