AFL players in trouble over nude 'sexts'

The AFL is embroiled in yet another scandal. This time two Collingwood players sent female fans nude selfies, which have been published in a women's magazine.

The AFL expressly bans players from transmitting sexually graphic images.

Star AFL players Dane Swan and Travis Cloke were covered up at training, but feeling the heat from the intense sun and public glare after their naked photographs were published in a women's magazine.

The players sent them to female fans – strangers – they had seen on Instagram.

Some photographs didn't make the cut for the magazine; they were simply too graphic.

Their club president labelled the players idiots.

"From what I've been led to believe, they have been completely stooged and sucked in and have tumbled in," says Eddie McGuire.

Swan was the AFL's best and fairest player in 2011 and is in a long-term relationship, while Cloke proposed to his partner late last year.

The photos were apparently shopped around, on sale for up to $20,000.

"I don't think it's a big scandal for Collingwood," says McGuire. "It's got nothing to do with Collingwood."

The club says there will be no sanctions because it's a private matter, but the fallout is very public.

"How dumb are these footballers?" says commentator Rita Panahi. "When will they learn? We've had players sacked for Snapchat offences. This generation seems to be obsessed with their own genitalia and they just want to share it with people. Put it away, boys."

"The fact is sexting is a major in schools," says psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Greg. "These guys are role models and it's unacceptable behaviour."

The AFL's social media policy deems sexting inappropriate. Management will now decide whether the photos are a breach.
