All Whites midfielder Henry Cameron is making significant strides towards his return to action after rupturing his ACL on international duty.

Cameron, 18, was called into the New Zealand squad after impressing for his club side Blackpool FC, but suffered the serious injury just 42 minutes into his debut.

"The recovery's going really well. I'll be starting straight-line running on Monday," Cameron told Blackpoolfc.co.uk

"I should be back training in July and hopefully be playing in August or September if everything goes to plan."

Cameron played 16 times for Blackpool before his season was ended, but said he doesn't regret his decision to play for New Zealand, a country he qualifies for through his mother.

"It was a really proud moment for me and my mum to represent them. I have no regrets in playing the game, it was an easy decision to represent them.

"The qualifiers start next season. We've not got an easy route in but we should qualify. You play against all the island teams and then you go into a big qualifying group."

The Seasiders currently find themselves embezzled in a relegation scrap, sitting 21st in League One (England's third tier).

"I thought I was making good progress with my professional career because I was in the team most weeks.

"It's been frustrating to be out but obviously it wasn't meant to be so I've got to look forward to next season now."
