Black Caps captain Kane Williamson out of second Test

In a massive blow to the Black Caps, skipper Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the second Test against India due to illness.

Staff were confident he'd be able to take his place in the side despite missing training in Kolkata on Thursday, but New Zealand Cricket have since confirmed he'd be taking no part in the match after there was no improvement with his fever.

Ross Taylor will take over the captaincy, while relative newcomer Henry Nicholls is likely to be named as his replacement.

Williamson recently moved into the second spot on the ICC's world batsman rankings with a current Test average of 51.05, runs the Black Caps will find difficult to replace on what is likely to be another challenging wicket at Eden Gardens.

Nicholls has six tests under his belt with an average of just over 27 runs, including two half-centuries.
