Since the London Olympics, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have been unbeatable in the 49er class, but the four-time world champions admit they're still chasing perfection.

"It's always been part of the programme -- to be still sorting things out and still improving at this late stage," Burling said.

"Really happy with how we're going on that, but like I said, it's all part of the plan.  We're really happy with how it's going but we've still got a fair bit to do. We wouldn't be ready if the Games started tomorrow."

The same could be said for the Olympic host city. But just back from a training camp in Rio, the pair are backing it to overcome its numerous issues.

"The city's still got a bit of work to do with transport and that sort of thing, but I'm sure they'll get there," Tuke said.

"It's a great city -- awesome backdrop with the landscape and whatnot. It's going to be a great Olympics and I think the people are excited."

With 26 straight regatta wins since London, the pair are hot favourites for gold. They'll look to extend that winning streak with one more event in Germany this month, but the focus is -- and always has been -- on the Olympics.

"The one we want to win is in August, and just to be ticking off some of the final things between now and August is exciting, and [we're] just looking forward to the challenge," Burling said.

They're aware of how big that challenge will be.

"We know that we're going to have to put down the regatta of our lives in August if we want to win and I think that's what excites us and motivates us," Tuke said.

The duo's campaign begins in 60 days.
