A complaint of racial abuse by a rugby player during a Christchurch club match has been upheld by the Canterbury Rugby Football Union (CRFU).

A judicial review hearing was held at the CRFU headquarters in Christchurch on August 24. At the hearing it's understood a Belfast player admitted calling a Suburbs player a "f**king black c**t" during a Division 4 match on August 6.

CRFU community rugby general manager Tim Gilkison confirmed to Newshub that the complaint made by Suburbs management had been upheld.

The CRFU has yet to release any information regarding what penalty the player will receive.
