Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd has praised him team labelling it a "team performance" following his side's 25-9 win over the Chiefs.

"That probably was it, it was a team performance," said Boyd.

"One of the things which has been most pleasing is that Colsey (Dane Coles) didn't make it but yet I though Ricky (Ricky Riccitelli) and Leni (Leni Apisai) did a good job in his absence and that's a continuation this year that when people have had to drop out, other guys have stepped up."

Despite winning on the score board, the Hurricanes spent much on the first half defending their line, but the Chiefs could not breach them for the important try.

"I think you look at it hindsight and you think that was an important moment in the game," said Hurricanes stand-in captain TJ Perenara.

"When you are in the game it's just another part of the process that you got through, especially against a team like the Chiefs who have plenty to throw at you."

The Hurricanes will host next week's final against the Lions, following their 42-30 win over the Highlanders.

Chris Boyd wasn't sure if injured skipper Dane Coles will be fit to go for the final.

"It's one of those injuries where you can't really tell, said Boyd. "We will give him till kick-off on Saturday to come right.

"Hopefully he can get through some training with us."

The Wellington-based team will be playing in their third Super Rugby final and will be looking to claim their maiden title.
