His distinctive voice has become synonymous with wildlife documentaries, but now Sir David Attenborough has lent his narrating chops to one of the more interesting winter sports – Curling.

BBC Radio 1 asked the veteran broadcaster and natural history presenter to provide his take on the sport of Curling during a match between the US and the Great Britain at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

"In all my years of exploration, these are the creatures I find most curious – for the first time ever, filmed over the course of three afternoons in deepest Russia, using the world's most state-of-the-art cameras – this is Curling."

"Here we have a pack of sliding curlers. Watch as the alpha female displays her dominance over the herd by tapping the end of the frisking broom to check for rogue insects - this is a precise exercise. And off she goes, gently and flamboyantly launching the oversized walnut down the frozen river," Sir David says.

For the record, Great Britain beat the USA 12 – 3 and reached the semifinals, but lost to Canada 6-4. They will take on Switzerland for the Bronze medal.
