Defending champions Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka have been confirmed top seeds for next week's Australian Open.

The world No.1s unsurprisingly topped the official seeding list, announced by Tennis Australia on Monday.

The seedings are effectively in line with current ATP and WTA rankings, save where players are unavailable.

Spain's David Ferrer continues to benefit from his countryman Rafael Nadal's injury and illness-enforced absence, taking the No.4 ranking and thus avoiding any of the top three players until at least the semi-finals.

Samantha Stosur is the only Australian to be seeded in either the men's or women's singles draw, coming in at No.9.
