Kevin Durant revealed leaving behind promising Kiwi center Steven Adams played a big factor in his decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durant, who was speaking to media during Team USA's Olympic press conference, said that he'll miss lining up alongside Adams after he opted to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

"I am, that's what made the decision so hard," Durant said on leaving Adams.

"Steven is going to be great, man. He works hard, he loves the game, and he just had that pure fun and joy.

"He's going to be great for them."

Durant added that he hopes to see Steven's sister Valerie Adams throw for shot put gold in Rio if he gets the chance.

The NBA star says he's heard all about Valerie's winning past from Steven, admitting he would even use her to wind-up the Thunder's big man.

"I always used to tell Steven that she's the best athlete in the family.

"Hopefully I get to see her, I don't know the schedule, but it would be cool to see."
