Rio police have arrested Pat Hickey, a member of the International Olympic Committee.
He is accused of being involved in the sale Olympic Games tickets.
The arrest took place at the hotel the IOC is using in Barra da Tijuca.
The Irishman became ill after arrest and had to be taken to Samaritano hospital in Barra.
The state revealed last week that scalpers arrested in Rio were supplied tickets by the "Olympic family" and worked for a company with links to the IOC members.
In total, about 40 people were arrested in three days in Rio, the scammers repeating a scheme also tried on at the Football World Cup in 2014.
