Manu Vatuvei has praised the support the Kiwis received during their successful Four Nations campaign.

The Kiwis beat the Kangaroos 22-18 in Wellington to win their first piece of silverware in four years and end a run of Australian success.

Vatuvei, who scored two tries, said it's awesome to get back to winning ways.

"It's been a while, but it's awesome to have the trophy on our side now and not the Aussies' side. It was an awesome feeling and good that we had the support of New Zealand backing us up."

The Kiwis played Four Nations matches in Whangarei and Dunedin before winning the final in Wellington.

New Zealand Rugby League CEO Phil Holden said a lot of that support can be put down to taking the game around the country.

"There is no doubt that the team fed off the energy of the people in New Zealand," said Holden.

"The locals' support and the communities that we went to was nothing short of sensational."
