Nelson Piquet trackside for Toyota Racing Series

India's Jehan Daruvala has claimed the first big prize race of the Toyota Racing Series, the Lady Wigram Trophy, at a rain-soaked Ruapuna, and he did it in front of a Formula One great.

It was a gloomy day for the bright young things of world motorsport, and watching closely in the Canterbury drizzle was three-time Formula One world champion Nelson Piquet, whose son, Pedro, finished second in today's first Toyota Series Race.

"Only time will tell if he is able to be there," says Nelson. "It depends on him, not me."

The 17-year-old Brazilian isn't the first driver to have a world-champion dad for a coach in the TRS; Damon Hill was trackside for his son, Josh, five years ago.
