Simon Mannering has been left bemused by what the Warriors are lacking after coming up short again in their hunt for the NRL finals.

The former Warriors captain has seen the highs and lows during his time at the club, but was lost for words when asked for his thoughts on what the team was missing after their finals hopes were ended by the Wests Tigers.

"Yeah I'm not too sure to be honest, I guess if we knew we wouldn't be in this situation again," Mannering said.

"I guess from the weekend we've only got ourselves to blame, I guess as a playing group we've got to take onus on that, no one else.

"I just feel from the weekend that we beat ourselves which is unfortunate in the most important game of the season of us.

"I can't really put much more on it that that."

The Warriors haven't been to the NRL finals since 2011 when they lost to the Manly Sea Eagles 24-10 in the grand final.

Despite Andrew McFadden failing to lead his side to the playoffs in his three seasons with the club, Mannering is adamant a coaching change wouldn't help the team.

"I don't think changing the coach is going to help. That's definitely not the answer.

"I don't make those decisions, but us as players we obviously have to do something different because we don't want to be in this position again."

Captain Ryan Hoffman offered similar opinions and believes fans should look no further than the poor effort on the field.

"I think it comes down to individual errors," said Hoffman.

"Nobody went out there to make mistakes, nobody went out there to miss tackles, but we just need to make sure we're limiting those.

"I think everyone is aware that it's on the individual, not everything comes down to the coach. We've been prepared well all year."

The Warriors wrap up the season against the Eels on Sunday at Mt Smart Stadium.
