Kiwi driver Hayden Paddon's enjoying being back in home conditions as he prepares to race in the Otago Rally this weekend.

Paddon will pull up in a brand new car at the Rally of Otago this weekend and will compete in Hyundai's new i20 machine.

"New car requires a bit of work, a bit of fine tuning so we need these events to do that," Paddon said.

"We're using the body kit from the WRC car. Underneath they've been designed with the same concept, a very simple design."

The 28-year-old Paddon and long-time co-driver John Kennard will also compete in the International Rally of Whangarei later this month before heading back to the WRC circuit.

"These are probably my two favourite rallies in New Zealand, two rallies where we have a lot of history as well so looking forward to them.

"The best thing when you come back to New Zealand [is] the roads are like a gravel motorway, very smooth and a lot of flow. These are just things you don't find anywhere else in the world.
