Proud parents of Meech siblings happy hard work has paid off

Simon and Deb Meech don't believe there is any special secret in raising siblings who win Olympic medals within two days of each other.

The proud parents of Rio bronze medallist Sam, and silver medallist Molly, just put it down to being there for their kids at times of need.

"Look after them and put up with all the times they tell you how tired they are," said Deb Meech.

As far as expectations for Rio were concerned, Deb had hoped for medal race finishes, but winning one was beyond her wildest dreams.

"We hoped both of them would get into the top 10 and anything after that was just a bonus."

Dad Simon was just relieved that all the years of hard worked had paid off for his children with medal performances in Rio.

"Extremely proud, it's an exciting time for them and it's really nice to see them succeed at what they have been trying for years."

For Molly Meech, it has been the opportunity to pay back her parents support with success in Rio as the ultimate prize.

"They have been amazing support, I guess they were our major sponsor when we were just getting into sailing and they have just put up with us."

As for paying back their parents for the financial and moral support since the early days, Sam Meech was in no doubt.

"Oh, don't ask that."
