New Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is set to miss the first two months of the EPL season after breaking his hand in a friendly with Chelsea.

The Germany under-21 international broke his right hand when punching a ball and colliding with his own defender, Dejan Lovren, in a 1-0 loss to Chelsea in Pasadena, United States.

The 22-year-old was seen as a likely No.1 goalkeeper at Anfield after an off-season transfer of £4.7m from German club Mainz.

The Reds are left with two fit senior goalkeepers in Simon Mignolet and 39-year-old Alex Manninger.
