While most teenagers will have spent hours at the beach this summer, Ollie Curtis has spent most of his time indoors and in the cold.
In fact, he's so good on the rink, the ice hockey player has secured one of only 16 spots at the Youth Olympics in Norway over the next two weeks.
"I just know I've got this feeling that something is going to happen. It's not your normal skate on a Sunday, this is big," Curtis said.
However, unlike the Mighty Ducks and the NHL, the Mount Albert Grammar student won't have a full team behind him.
Instead, Curtis will compete in a one-on-one in the ice hockey skills challenge made up of six different tests including fastest lap, shooting accuracy and skating agility.
His coaches believe the 15-year-old has unlimited potential, but the thought of scouts and going pro couldn't be further from this teenager's mind.
"I'm not getting my hopes up or anything, I'm just sort of going to go out there and do my best and see what happen," Curtis said.
But if he has it his way, he'll at least be coming home with a medal around his neck.
