Confirmation is expected in the coming days that the All Whites will face the United States in an international friendly in October.

The Washington Post reports the US Men's National Team – ranked 26th in the world - will play New Zealand on October 11 at Washington's RFK Stadium.

Newshub understands New Zealand Football have been aware of a potential problem around a proposed fixture between the United States and Ghana scheduled for the same time, and have been in pole position to secure a date with the hosts in the event the fixture fell over.

FIFA rules prevent the Ghana team from travelling the distance required to face the United States, while adhering to strict guidelines around player welfare.

The fixture will take place just days after the All Whites will face 14th ranked Mexico in Nashville, and represents another coup for New Zealand Football in their bid to prepare the team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and a likely meeting with the fifth-ranked nation in South America in a two-legged intercontinental playoff for a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
