The League Fix: Warriors pack myth busted

It's one of the biggest myths in rugby league - and also the laziest.

The Warriors "Monster" forward pack.

It's been trundled out almost on a weekly basis from across the Tasman ever since the Warriors debuted in 1995.

Back then, and even through until the early 2000s, it was true. Behemoths like Joe Vagana, Hitro Okosene, Grant Young, Mark Tookey, Jerry Seu Seu, Richard Villasanti, Ali Lauiti'iti, Iafeta Palea'aesina paving the way for that reputation.

But Newshub's taken a look at this year's NRL packs - and our stats show the Warriors are far from the monster pack - in fact they only rate 11th in our packs rankings.

Take tonight against the Raiders. Not one member of the starting pack cracks 110kg. Two bench spot are filled by players under 100kg (Tui Lolohea at 89kg and Jazz Tevaga at 93kg).

Whereas Canberra's two starting props Shannon Boyd and Junior Paulo are both over 120kg! The only bloke under doesn't crack triple figures on the Green Machine bench is Sia Soliola on 99kg, and that was probably before lunch.

But does size matter? Watch this special game day edition of the League Fix for an insight into how the Warriors have viewed big packs, how they've changed and where their point of difference lies now.
