Samoan boxing contender Alex Leapai has taken inspiration from David Tua as he prepares for his biggest fight of his life in April.

The Brisbane-based heavyweight will take on reigning world champion Wladimir Klitschko in Germany and says if Tua can do it, so can he.

"To see David Tua come from Samoa, a small island, and to go out there and dominate the world, that means heaps," Leapai said.

"If he can do it, I'm pretty sure I can do it but for sure this time I'll bring it home."

Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker has been confirmed to fight on the under-card and will take on Ukranian Andriy Rudenko.

Leapai said he's always keen to support fellow boxers from this part of the world.

"When my manager asked me who did we want on the card, I wanted Joseph Parker because he's another Samoan. I just want the world to know that we do have fighters on this side of the world that can fight," Leapai said.

Leapai becomes the second Samoan boxer - after David Tua - to fight for a world heavyweight title.
