An emotional Ben Sigmund is looking forward to hanging up the boots after a gruelling end to his football career.

The Phoenix hard man has battled multiple injuries and illnesses towards the end of his career, but said he hasn't lost the emotional will even if his body has.

The 35-year-old said it's been an emotional last week of training, but is focused on putting in a good showing in his last game against Western Sydney on Sunday.

"The sad emotions are coming through, but in general I'm trying to enjoy this week and the boys and the last bit of training, even though every little time I run it hurts everywhere," said Sigmund.

"It's uncontrollable emotions, you can't actually describe it. You've just got to go through with it and look forward to the game and enjoy it and make the most of the atmosphere and the people, the fans, and the boys and then it's all over."

Sigmund joked that music on the radio has been messing with his emotions in the last few days.

"It's really weird you'll be driving along with the radio and all these songs and you just have a wee cry on your own. It's weird.

"Look, it's a proud emotion at the end of it all, it's been really hard work to keep going for this long and I'm looking forward to it finishing, but also, I'm going to be sad at the same time."
