Kenya have had history slip from their fingers after losing to England 24-19 in the Wellington Sevens cup final after a gutsy display.

England began the game strongly, taking a 12-0 lead after some magnificent footwork from Dan Norton saw him burst through the middle and the deadly Christian Lewis-Pratt follow soon after.

But Kenya replied quickly with tries from Horace Otieno, Oscar Ouma and Willy Ambaka to lead at the break.

From there it seemed Kenya were good to defend their lead and for the most part they were. Two magnificent try-saving tackles in the last two minutes from a six-man Kenya appeared to have sealed the deal until a penalty given away on the final play saw England’s Pratt-Lewis barge over once again.

With the home crowd in full voice for Kenya England then stunned the stadium when Sam Edgerley went over to score the match-winning try in extra-time.
