England proved too strong for Australia as Eddie Jones men ran out 39-28 winners.

If the three-Test rugby series between the Wallabies and England is to be a battle of the coaches, it's Jones who has struck the first blow.

Europe's Six Nations champions recovered from a 10-0 deficit on Saturday night to record their first-ever win over the Wallabies in Brisbane.

Both teams scored three tries but a 24-point haul from Owen Farrell ultimately proved the difference.

Michael Hooper scored the first try of the game after he took advantage of a sluggish England forward back and popped around the back of a ruck to score in the corner.

The Wallabies had a second 15 minutes in when Bernard Foley's perfectly timed pass hit Folau in space and the fullback sped away on the angle.

Foley couldn't convert either try, while England kept themselves in the contest through three penalties off the boot of Owen Farrell.

England snatched the halftime lead, much to the surprised of the Wallabies, when Jonathan Joseph capitalised on some sloppy handling to swing the game 16-10 in the visitors favour.

A rumbling James Haskell helped set up England's second try when he charged from the side of the scrum and it took three Wallabies to bring him down. Left badly stretched, England swung the ball wide and Marland Yarde went over unopposed.

A second try to Hooper and another to Tevita Kuridrani pulled Australia within touching distance, but a late try to substitute Jack Nowell sealed the win.
