Jason Emery scored a 76th minute try for Manawatu to seal a thrilling 34-27 victory over a gutsy Northland side in Whangarei.
In a see-sawing contest, the Turbos ran out to an early lead scoring 19 points in the first quarter of the match, but the home side fought back brilliantly scoring too late first half tries to hit the lead going into the break.
Kara Pryor was excellent for Northland, busting tackles at will and being the centre of everything the hosts did well.
Pryor's break early in the second spell extended Northland's lead when Michael Faleafa crossed the to seal off a wonderful piece of play by the Taniwha, and when loose forward Jack Ram scored a try in the final quarter it appeared the hosts were heading to a stunning victory.
However Manawatu substitute playmaker, Otere Black settled things down for the last 15 minutes and was instrumental in right wing Ambrose Curtis' effort that saw the Turbos level he scores with 10 minutes to play.
Experienced midfielder Emery then crossed a few minutes later to seal the points for the green and whites and give them a valuable away win early on in the 2016 Mitre 10 Cup.
