Wellington have continued their dominant form, running in nine tries to crush Southland 60-21 at Westpac Stadium.

With the win, Wellington secures a playoff spot in the Championship with two games remaining.

Wellington trailed early after Southland halfback when Jahvis Wallace caught the defence napping to score near the posts.

Wellington responded quickly with two tries in six minutes through inform flanker Vaea Fifita and Greg Foe.

Southland first-five Wharenui Hawere then got one back for the Stags when he stepped his way past Jackson Garden-Bachop and Peter Umaga-Jenson to reduce the gap.

Wellington then put the foot down and scored two fantastic long-range tries to secure a four-try bonus point.

Wes Goosen scored the first which all started when Sam Lousi put Matt Proctor into space. After a long run, Proctor found Jackson Garden-Bachop who then had the vision to spot the unmarked Goosen who strolled over.

Four minutes later Woodward embarrassed the Southland defence with a 60m run down the sideline to score, giving Wellington a halftime lead of 38-14.

The second half started the same way the first half ended, with an incredible long range try.

The Lions won a turnover in their own 22 and Peter Umaga-Jenson stabbed the stick through into open space, which left winger Malo Tuitama won the race too before kicking the ball ahead and collecting a favourable bounce to score in the corner.

Wellington scored further tries when hooker Asafo Aumua, flanker Galu Taufale and Malo Tuiama all scored to complete the whitewash.

Southland did get a late consolation try when Keanu Kahukura scored after the siren.

Wellington have two games next week, the first against Manawatu on Wednesday and then again on Sunday when they host Taranaki. Southland will host Northland in a dead rubber match.
