There's an air of quiet confidence among New Zealand's Olympic sailing squad as they prepare to embark on their medal-gathering mission to Rio.

Blair Tuke has been no stranger to success in recent years and is ready to put himself to the ultimate test on the world's biggest sporting stage.

"Everything we've been doing has been about this moment," said Tuke, hot favourite to take gold in the men's 49er class with cohort Peter Burling.

"We've had some good results over the last few years but like we've always said, it's always been about Rio. Now it's here and it's time to put down a good performance."

Despite competing at her first Olympics, Molly Meech was preparing as she would any other competition.

"In one sense it just feels like we're going into another regatta, but as everyone says once you get down there it will feel completely different," Meech said.

"For us being at our first Olympics we don't really know what we're going into, but I think with the team we have around us, we should be fine."

Paul Snow-Hansen was making use of the wealth of experience at his disposal, aiming to repeat the exploits of the gold medal-winning women's 470 class in London 2012.

"Learning off people like Peter and Blair and Polly (Powrie) who medalled at the last Olympics, it gives you a really good benchmark for what you should be doing."

For defending champions Powrie and Jo Aleh, it's very much business as usual.

"For Jo  it's her third Olympics, for me it's my second, so we're a little bit more relaxed in that we know a bit about what to expect," Powrie said.

"But we just see it as another challenge, a new challenge."
