English Premier League champions Manchester City arrived in Madrid on Monday evening (17th September, UKt).

Having trained in Manchester earlier in the day, the players just had a walk around the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu, ahead of their clash with Real Madrid.

Sergio Aguero was among players to travel and City manager Roberto Mancini said the Argentina international "has a chance" to start against the Spanish side after a month out with a knee injury.

Manchester City exited at the group stage of the Champions League last season and their task of finishing in the top two in Group D will be a tough one as they come up against the league champions from Spain, the Netherlands and Germany - Real Madrid, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund.

City go into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw at Stoke in the English Premier League, while their opponents on Tuesday lost 1-0 at Sevilla in Spain's top flight.

Real Madrid are eleventh in La Liga, eight points behind leaders Barcelona, with rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo's unhappiness rife.

Roberto Mancini was asked about Ronaldo and whether there were comparisons with the Italian's difficulties with Carlos Tevez from last season, and the Manchester City boss joked, "if he (Mourinho) wants to win La Liga again I think he should send Cristiano (Ronaldo) for six months in Portugal, and after when he comes back, they can win the Liga for a second time!"

Manchester City also revealed on Monday that David Silva had signed a new five-year contract.

The Spanish international warned of the dangers of Real Madrid: "the beast Real Madrid carry inside can wake up at any moment. They have the great team, with great players," he said.
