NASCAR driver Austin Dillon has escaped a horrific crash unharmed at the Daytona 400 in Florida.

However, five spectators were injured by debris after Dillon's car flew into the security barrier separating the stands from the race track.

The car then landed on its roof and was hit by another car that was out of control.

Incredibly, Dillon walked away from his smashed-up car without any injuries describing the crash as "vicious".

"It's twisting you around in there, and the belts are loosening with each hit, so the hits are getting more and more violent. By the fourth hit, you've separated enough so that the fourth one is going to hurt more than others," the driver told USA Today.
