Novak Djokovic may start a new fad diet after munching on some grass after beating Roger Federer to win Wimbledon.

Tennis world No.1 Djokovic bent down and plucked a few blades of grass off the hallowed court before chewing on them after his 7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (12-10), 6-4, 6-3 victory.

"It tasted very, very good this year," Djokovic said after accepting the trophy.

"I don't know what the grounds people have done this year, but they've done a great job. It's a tradition, obviously.

"As a kid I was dreaming of winning Wimbledon, so, like every child, you dream of doing something crazy when you actually achieve it - if you achieve it - and that was one of the things."

It's a tradition Djokovic has adhered to after defending his Wimbledon title from last year, but he made sure it was safe to eat first.

"I was assured that its gluten free, it's not processed, completely organic and natural and I could eat it," Djokovic said.

"It was obviously nice to repeat this tradition and doing the thing I do after I win the title here in Wimbledon. As I said on the court, when I was a child dreaming of winning Wimbledon, it was something I always wanted to do in my celebration. I picked that. I hope people are not annoyed by that."
