Eliza McCartney has fast become a fan favourite with both the New Zealand public and the Olympic team.

A chant to the tune of 'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes broke out for the pole vault bronze medallist during the New Zealand team photos.

"That's the first chant I've heard," said McCartney, who couldn't hold back a smile.

"In the New Zealand club I've heard there was a lot of people watching and they were really supportive and apparently chanting. It's so nice."

Gold medallist sailor Blair Tuke said it was his little brother who started the chant, which he admitted caught on quickly.

"We were watching her compete at the NZ club and had the whole club doing it," said Tuke.

"I think some of the sevens girls remembered it because they cranked it back up."
