Roger Federer has spoken out about the absence of tennis rival Rafael Nadal and how it could prove a chance for other players to shine at the Australian Open.

"Obviously with Rafa not around it is unfortunate, we would love to see him back so we were all hoping he was going to come back, but it creates opportunities for many other players with one less guy who normally runs through 90 percent of the guys so it is an interesting Australian Open,” Federer says.

Federer chose a different build-up to the Melbourne based tournament this year, skipping the usual warm-up competitions in favour of parenting.
