If you're thinking about buying a loved one the latest hi-tech gadget for Christmas you may have to think again.

New Zealand consumers will have to wait until the New Year to enjoy some products already available in the US and other countries, such as the new models of the Kindle e-reader.

Paul Brislen from the Telecommunications Users Association of New Zealand says the United States does not view New Zealand as a strong market.

“We’ve always had trouble with television and getting music in a timely fashion, but when it comes down to things like e-books I’ve just tried to subscribe and buy a book by a new author… tried to buy the book and it says ‘well you can’t get it until April’.”

“When it’s a digital product, surely a worldwide global launch makes more sense than a piecemeal launch that doesn’t take into account the whole internet,” he told Firstline this morning.
