After closed talks yesterday, a high court judge has ruled that Megaupload millionaire Kim Dotcom be granted a monthly $60,000 living allowance and the use of his late-model Mercedes.
The allowance will be paid out of interest accrued on the $10 million Dotcom invested in New Zealand Government bonds and from a bank account returned to him.
3 News requested an interview with Kim Dotcom but two security men said was not available today, and apparently he is in back to back meetings all day.
But earlier this month, the multi-millionaire told John Campbell he was having to rely on others to survive.
“I'm an easy target - I'm not Google and I don't have $50 billion on my account, and right now I don't have a penny on my account,” Kim Dotcom said.
“All my lawyers are basically working without a penny and they doing it because what they see here is unreasonable, unfair, and not justice.”
And it seems many New Zealanders agree he has been hard done by.
Within an hour of posting the news of his allowance on Facebook, more than 150 people had "liked" it.
Most comments were favourable, including “finally - he doesn't deserve the way they have treated him'' and “way to go m8, up them yanks''.
Although another wrote: "Now kick hm bak 2 hs own country, he is still a bloody glorified thief - get rid of him''.
An extradition hearing for Kim Dotcom is set down for August.
