Twitter's new video-sharing service Vine may get pulled from the Apple App Store because it has been overrun with pornographic content.
Vine allows users to share six-second videos through social networking site Twitter. It received an Apple Editor's Choice award, and has been one of the most downloaded apps since its release last week.
Yesterday a video featuring sexually explicit material was marked as an Editor's Pick in the Vine app, and there are reports many of the clips uploaded to the service are pornographic in nature.
Twitter said that featuring the explicit video as an Editor's Pick was "human error".
“A human error resulted in a video with adult content becoming one of the videos in Editor’s Picks, and upon realising this mistake we removed the video immediately,” said Twitter. “We apologise to our users for the error.”
Vine's terms of service don't explicitly ban adult material, but Twitter says it will place warnings on clips that are reported as inappropriate.
Apple has a strict no-porn policy for apps in its online store. Company founder Steve Jobs once said, people who want porn should stay away from Apple products and get an Android phone instead.
"You know, there’s a porn store for Android,” Jobs said in 2010. "You can download nothing but porn. You can download porn, your kids can download porn. That’s a place we don’t want to go, so we’re not going to go there."
