A Burmese beauty queen has run off with her tiara after being dethroned as Miss Asia Pacific World.
The 18-year-old was stripped of her title for allegedly being rude and dishonest towards pageant organisers.
May Myat Noe had been crowned the most beautiful woman in Asia Pacific at a pageant in South Korea.
But things soon got ugly. At the start of the 18-year-old's reign, organisers wanted to change her looks. They paid for her to have breast enhancement surgery, and that's when troubles began.
"We thought she should be more beautiful, so we sent her to the hospital to operate on her breasts" says Miss Asia Pacific World director of media David Kim. "It's our responsibility. If she has no good nose, then maybe, if she likes, we can operate on her nose. If it's breasts, then breasts."
Organisers say Miss Myanmar was a disappointment throughout her reign. They decided to dethrone her after three months for what they described as lying, disrespecting the organisation and being ungrateful.
But a day before she was due to go back home, the teenager took off with her ruby-red tiara, which organisers say is worth $120,000.
"She just disappeared with the crown and sash," says Mr Kim.
Nigel Godfrey of Miss Universe New Zealand says contestants must be careful about the competitions they enter, as many pageants are dodgy.
"Girls must be buyer-beware when it comes to these competitions because many of them are shams and this sounded like it. Once you enter a contest, you shouldn't need to change. You are the winner for that very reason."
Pageant organisers are now tracking down the ousted beauty queen, thought to be off the grid in her home country.
