A homicide investigation has been launched into the suspicious death of a New Zealand woman in Brisbane -- the second in three weeks.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Damon Mulcahy says 28-year-old Melanie Floyd died on Saturday: "Melanie had been in the… intensive care unit of the Royal Brisbane Hospital for several days and unfortunately she passed away.
"Detectives from the North Brisbane district and the homicide group are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding how Melanie came to be at the hospital."
Australian media are reporting the former Tauranga woman died from severe head injuries.
One of Melanie Floyd's friends is raising donations to help support her family on website Go Fund Me.
Many of Ms Floyd's friends left comments on Facebook in her memory.
"A beautiful soul taken far too soon. Such a big heart and so caring, always giving up your time to make sure others were taken care of, I'll cherish the times we shared and miss your ability to brighten up my day with your lovely smile," wrote Shaun King.
Another friend, Jay Humphries, wrote: "Absolutely Lost for words. Today I say goodbye to one of my bestfriendsMelanie Floyd. Never had I met someone as caring and loving as you (sic)."
"Melanie was a beautiful and selfless person and she would go out of her way to help anyone with anything," Mitchell Scott said.
Ms Floyd is the second New Zealand woman to be killed in Brisbane recently. Sandra Peniamina, 29, died after suffering multiple stab wounds at her house in Redcliffe on March 31.
The man accused of Ms Peniamina's murder is due to appear in court today.
