Five people were killed when a light plane crashed and burst into flame at Caboolture Airfield, north of Brisbane, around 11:30am local time.

A witness told ABC News that the Cessna 206 was being used for skydiving, and crashed shortly after taking off.

Emergency services put out the fire at the scene, but there were no survivors.

The airfield has been closed, and investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been called to investigate the crash.
