A women interrupted a European Central Bank news conference after she jumped on a table shouting "end ECB dictatorship" while throwing paper in the air.

ECB chief Mario Draghi was outlining the bank's latest monetary policy thinking when the protester leapt in front of him, showering him in papers and what appeared to be confetti, Sky News reports.

The woman was quickly apprehended by security and she continued to shout "end ECB dictatorship".

After the video feed from the conference was cut, the woman flashed a V for victory sign and smiled as she was man handled out of the building by security.

Mr Draghi and his fellow speakers were unharmed in the incident and resumed the conference shortly afterwards.

It is not known why the woman interrupted the conference, but Reuters reports the radical activist group Femen have claimed responsibility.
