Antony de Malmanche could possibly receive a reduction to his prison sentence as part of Indonesia's Independence Day celebrations.

The Kiwi is serving time in a Bali jail after being caught smuggling 1.7kg of methamphetamine from Hong Kong to Bali in December 2014.

De Malmanche has now been recommended to have three months taken off his 15-year sentence, reports Radio New Zealand.

The reduction was recommended for well-behaved prisoners to mark Indonesia's 70th anniversary.

Renae Lawrence – a member of the Bali Nine who was sentenced to 20 years' prison in 2004 – is also eligible to get her prison time cut by nine months.
