For more than 260 years, historians and scientists have been puzzling over a library of classical Greek and Roman scrolls.

The texts were preserved in a villa after the eruption of Mt Vesuvius, but they're so delicate that any attempts to unroll them have only done damage.

But now, researchers may have figured out how to discover their secrets. So how are they planning to read them, and what information might they contain?

Also, scientists have proposed making July 16, 1945 the official start of a new geologic era, the Anthropocene. It marks the first time humans ever detonated a nuclear weapon, and the point when human activity began to irreversibly alter the planet.
