The only nuclear power plant in Massachusetts has increased security after two bombs exploded in Boston, killing at least two people and injuring dozens. The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, Massachusetts, about 72km south of Boston, was already shut down for refuelling when the explosions occurred.

Federal officials said Pilgrim has heightened checks of vehicles, materials individuals entering the plant and will take other steps as needed.

Eliot Brenner, a spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, said federal officials have not ordered changes in security at other US nuclear reactors in the wake of the Boston explosions.
