Australians will find out today if Tony Abbott will remain their Prime Minister.
Cabinet ministers will cast a secret ballot as to whether they still support the embattled leader.
Mr Abbott surprised Liberal MPs yesterday, giving them less than a day to decide as he moved the party’s leadership spill from Tuesday morning, to Monday.
He chided his detractors, saying the idea of a leadership change was a move more befitting their political rivals.
Mr Abbott says he called for the earlier date so they might quickly put the matter behind them.
Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has described the change in timing as another one of Mr Abbott's "captain's calls". Mr Turnbull is expected to run for the leadership if he gets the chance.
