Jacinda Ardern thanks Laura Daniel for joking about her

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has paid tribute to her comedy impersonator Laura Daniel from abroad following the final ever episode of Jono and Ben.

New Zealand's leader thanked the comedian for making her laugh at herself in "a very literal way".

In the show's grand finale, Ardern herself appeared in a skit with Daniel, who had imitated her throughout the final season.

"Last day here in Singapore for the East Asia Summit, which has meant missing a few things back home including the 2018 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (congratulations to all the winners!) and the final episode of Jono and Ben," the Prime Minister said on Instagram.

"Thanks for all the laughs you two, with a special thanks to Laura Daniel. You made me laugh at myself in a very literal way!"

Following the Jono and Ben episode, Daniel presented an award at the VNZMAs ceremony as Ardern with Samantha Hayes.

Daniel seized on opposition leader Simon Bridges being in the crowd as an opportunity to make a few jokes at the National Party.
