Watch: Jacinda Ardern, Dave Dobbyn, Six60 team up for 'summer banger' at 2019 VNZMAS

The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards (VNZMAs) red carpet is positively humming with the finest Kiwi musicians, so what better place to attempt to create this year's song of the summer?

Every year, New Zealand artists race to release THE backyard banger that'll play at every barbeque, every backyard cricket game and on every road trip to the beach.

With so many musos gathered in one place, Newshub asked them to - just this once - work in harmony, alongside a terrible royalty-free music track.

With the headphones in, the inspiration began to flow. Dave Dobbyn was spitting lyrical flames about Kaitaia Fire hot sauce, BENEE took over the hook and even Savage dropped a bar or two.

Throw in a "Kia ora, good evening", from Mike McRoberts and we were away laughing.

Under the watchful eye of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, a musical creation with the potential to soar to the top of the charts was born.
