Martin Scorsese sent Bong Joon Ho a heartfelt letter after Parasite's Oscars triumph

Korean director Bong Joon Ho has shared a personal letter he received from Martin Scorsese following Parasite dominating the 2020 Oscars.

Bong paid tribute to Scorsese while accepting the Academy Award for Best Director, citing the Goodfellas filmmaker as an inspiration and initiating a standing ovation for him.

Scorsese was clearly touched and has since taken the time to pen a heartfelt message to Bong in return.

"This morning I got a letter from Martin Scorsese," Bong said at a recent media event in South Korea.

"I can't tell you what the letter said because it's something personal. But towards the end he wrote 'You've done well. Now rest. But don't rest for too long.'

"He continued by saying how he and other directors were waiting for my next movie."

Bong's previous films include Snowpiercer, Memories of Murder, The Host, Okja, Mother and Barking Dogs Never Bite.

The hit filmmaker's next project hasn't yet been announced, but he is working with HBO on an English-language show based on Parasite

Meanwhile, Scorsese is working on a film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro entitled Killers of the Flower Moon which he recently described as a western.

"It happened in 1921-1922 in Oklahoma. There are certainly cowboys, but they have cars and also horses," Scorsese told Premiere.

The film is about the Osage, a Native American tribe whose territory is discovered to be rich in oil, leading to an influx of violent invaders.

"There, the underworld had such control over everything that you were more likely to go to jail for killing a dog than for killing an Indian."

Killers of the Flower Moon is set to move into production later this year.
