Kiwi comedian Tom Sainsbury speaks to ghosts in creepy Dead trailer

Kiwi funnyman Tom Sainsbury has traded channelling famous politicians for communicating with ghosts in the trailer for his new feature film Dead

Sainsbury plays stoner Dane 'Marbles' Markbeck in the flick, a hapless character who can see and speak with the dead - and makes a living off it. Hayden J Weal, the film's director, also plays a ghost cop who needs Marbles' help to solve his murder.

Weal and Sainsbury also teamed up off-screen to write Dead, which will hit New Zealand cinemas in August.

The political satirist and social media sensation leads an all-star cast including New Zealander of the Year Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Michael Hurst, Tōmairangi Ihaia and Jess Sayer.

"This film is such a fun ride," Sainsbury said in a statement.

"My character can see, communicate with, and even befriend ghosts... It's a recipe for intrigue, thrills and plenty of laughs. I'm so proud of this project and can't wait to share it with audiences."

Dead was shot entirely on location in Aotearoa and will be released internationally online on October 6.
