New Zealand child dancer the star of a new horror movie trailer that's been viewed by millions

A New Zealand child dancer is Hollywood's creepiest new star.

Twelve-year-old Amie Donald's dance moves in new horror movie M3GAN have been viewed by millions in the 24 hours since the trailer for the film was released.

On YouTube, over three million have watched the trailer in just 24 hours, with many commenting on how they "came for the horror, stayed for the dance" in the two-minute clip.

M3GAN is from James Wan, the man who brought us the Saw, The Conjuring and Insidious movie franchises, and will explore a creepy AI toy that comes to life after its creator (Get Out's Alison Williams) pairs it with her orphaned eight-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House).

In the trailer, Donald, who plays M3GAN, can be seen performing a series of dance moves before launching an attack on various members of the public in the film.

It's the dancing which appears to have caught the public's eye, with many predicting how the moves will soon be a TikTok craze.

"That dance move is going to be a meme for sure," said one comment that's racked up thousands of replies.

"Came for the horror, stayed for the dance," another said.

"She's got a point, she's an ICON, she's a LEGEND and she is THE MOMENT," another mentioned.

On her Instagram, Donald said she was "very lucky" to have been coached by two actors from the Lord of the Rings franchise.

"I was so very lucky to have @jedibrophy and @luke._.hawker as my movement coaches on set.

"These two gentlemen are so talented and I will forever be thankful to have worked with them. They put a smile on my face every day and I just love them to bits," she said.

Donald's not the only Kiwi connection to the movie, which hits New Zealand cinemas on January 12.

The film is directed by Gerard Johnstone, who was the writer of Housebound and also wrote for the comedy series The Jaquie Brown Diaries.

Rurangi actor Arlo Green also stars and the movie itself was shot in Auckland, with set work finishing in August 2021, just one day before the region went into a COVID-19 lockdown.
